As I discussed in my blog entry posted last Saturday, I really enjoyed reading Ms. Babinsky’s report titled How to Get More Clients Online (You can also get this report by clicking on the link located on the right side of my blog page) In this document, Ms. Babinsky makes reference to 5 strategies you should follow in order to get more clients.

To refresh your memory, Strategy No. 1 is Change your Mindset…change your mindset from what marketing used to be to what it is now, believe that you are the expert, believe that your target market needs your services and you are the best one out there providing those services. If you have no idea what I’m talking about I suggest you read Part 1, which I posted on May 17th.  So what is next on increasing your clientele? Keep reading…

Strategy No. 2 – DEFINE OR REFINE YOUR TARGET

For your pet sitting company to be successful, for your dog treat bakery to be successful, for your dog training company to be successful you need to identify your target market.

  • Is your pet sitting company available in just a downtown area or is it statewide? Do you pet sit just dogs and cats, or do you take care of horses, bunnies, guinea pigs, snakes, birds, fishes, etc.?
  • Is your pet-related business a niched service provider? Ms. Babinsky makes a very important point on this aspect: “Your customers want a tightly niched service provider because they want someone who is familiar with their industry and what they do. And THEY ARE WILLING TO PAY FOR THIS NICHED KNOWLEDGE.”

As a pet-related business owner, have you identified your effective target market? Where is your effective target market? How big is your effective target market? Ms. Babinsky defines an effective target market as “the market that includes people who NEED, WANT and CAN AFFORD your products and services.”

So how can you put Strategy No.2 – Define or Refine Your Target to practice? Follow Avocado Consulting advice and you will be on the right track.

  1. Review your client profiles and pick three clients whose names make you smile and that you are delighted to see – What made working with them a positive experience? How much money they spent on your product or services? Identify the positive qualities of these three clients. This is what you need to look for in your target market so that is effective.
  2. Brainstorm to identify outlets (e.g. blogs, forums, newsletter, social media networks) where your effective target market can be reached. Ask your best clients where they spend most of their time online: Facebook, Twitter? Ask them what they would like to see on your website: a blog with stories and pictures of their pets, a pay online system, etc.

Follow this steps and believe me…your clientele will increase! Stay tuned for Part 3.
