I received a newsletter email from Jennifer Haubein, Founder of Websites 2 Grow, and the title was “Are You Wasting Your Time On Social Media?”. Jennifer gave great tips on what to do with social media on a daily basis:

  1. Spend a few minutes in the morning, at lunch, and in evening time posting valuable content to Twitter and Facebook. One big mistake I see people making on twitter is they are there but no one knows what they do. Provide tips pertaining to your business, blog posts, videos, and much more!
  2. Interact- Retweet, reply back, and answer questions to those you know, those you would like to know, and those who pass your information around. Social media isn’t about shouting, so engaging with Twitter and Facebook friends is the key.
  3. Take it offline- Meet those you’ve met on Twitter for coffee and at events. This is where business happens and you take the social media relationship to the next level.
  4. Make sure you have a website or blog- If you don’t have a website or blog to continue on the social media conversation, you are wasting your time. This might sound harsh, but there is only so much a potential customer can find out about you through your Facebook or Twitter profile. If you’re not on Twitter or Facebook for business that’s no problem, but if you are spend your time getting your website ready to go.

I highlighted in red what I feel very strongly about when it comes to social media ~ Talk about what you do in your pet business (without annoying the audience!), Engage, Meet (in-person) people that you feel a real connection with that are local in your area, and have a blog site.

So my question for you is…What are your feelings towards social media networking sites? Do you like them? Did your website/blog traffic increased because of Twitter or Facebook? I want to hear everything…good or bad experiences? :)
